    Alex Unruh

    Alexander Unruh, often referred to as Alex, entered the world on May 7, 2003, at Lankenau Medical Center in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. From the outset, he exhibited a compelling blend of athleticism, academic prowess, and a dedication to community service.

     

    Early Life and Education

     

    Alex's childhood unfolded in Bryn Mawr, PA, where he embarked on his educational path at Gladwyne Elementary School before progressing to Welsh Valley Middle School. During these formative years, his aptitude for sports began to emerge, particularly in baseball and squash. Alex Unruh continued his educational journey at Harriton High School, where his academic and athletic talents flourished. He notably achieved a national ranking in squash, distinguishing him from his peers. His high school years also included a significant tenure at Westminster School in Simsbury, Connecticut, although he returned to Harriton in March 2022 to complete his education.

     

    In high school, Alex Unruh was a vital member of the varsity basketball and baseball teams and captained the squash team. His leadership extended beyond the sports fields as he also presided over the Ozone Art Club and led the spirit committee, showcasing his multifaceted interests and abilities.

     

    Athletic Prowess

     

    Alex's journey in sports is marked by notable achievements and experiences that shaped his youthful years. In the eighth grade, he ventured to Cuba, an experience that not only honed his baseball skills but also broadened his cultural horizons. His squash skills earned him a national ranking, underscoring his competitive spirit and athletic dedication.

     

    At Westminster School, Alex Unruh was recognized as All-League in squash during his first year, an accolade that highlighted his hard work and talent. His active participation in various sports tournaments further solidified his reputation as a committed athlete.

     

    Leadership in Wilderness and Adventure

     

    A significant chapter in his life was his involvement with Camp Kieve in Nobleboro, Maine. This camp emphasized outdoor leadership and wilderness adventures, enriching him with valuable life skills. He tackled challenges like hiking Mount Washington and canoeing along the Allagash Wilderness Waterway. These adventures deepened his appreciation for the outdoors, influencing his hobbies and pursuits.

     

    Academics and Fraternity Life

     

    Alexander Unruh is currently pursuing a degree in Sports Industry with a minor in Political Science at Ohio State University. His academic choices reflect his passion for sports and his aspirations in the sports management arena. His college life is enriched by his active participation in Greek life, particularly with the Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity. He joined this fraternity in the fall of 2023 and transitioned to full membership by spring 2024. His fraternity life includes engaging in intramural sports like IM basketball, further showcasing his athletic commitment.

     

    Professional Growth and Work Experience

     

    Alex's professional journey began at UPS, where he was responsible for package handling and logistics. He then honed his customer service skills as a cashier and server at Zoe's Kitchen. His subsequent roles have included a summer camp counselor at Camp Kieve and a food runner at the upscale Savona restaurant, where he interacted with a diverse clientele and enhanced his communication skills. Currently, he works in the bag room at the Philadelphia Country Club and occasionally takes on caddying responsibilities.

     

    Hobbies and Interests

     

    Beyond his professional and academic life, Alex Unruh is an enthusiastic golfer, skier, and weightlifter. His golfing skills are evident in his impressive 6.3 handicap. His passion for skiing takes him to Blue Mountain in the Poconos during the winter seasons, and his commitment to weightlifting underscores his dedication to physical fitness and personal development.

     

    Volunteering and Community Engagement

     

    His commitment to community service is a defining aspect of his character. He has volunteered with organizations like Cradles to Crayons, Narberth Food Bank, and St. Francis Inn, participating in service trips across the United States.
